Muslim Center at Ground Zero Will Moved
Muslim Center at Ground Zero Will Moved : New York Governor David Paterson plans to discuss the relocation of a Muslim cultural center and mosque of "Ground Zero", where the September 11 attacks in New York City, to a more distant or less evoke emotion.
"We will work with developers, "said a spokesman for Paterson, Maggie McKeon." There has been no official talks between the governor, the priest or the developer. However, we expect will be a meeting scheduled in the near future."
Peter King, U.S. representative from New York, said he had discussed the matter with Paterson, Tuesday, and the governor had told him he would meet this week with Muslim officials to discuss the provision of state funds to help the center find another location.
A spokesman for the project, Oz Sultan, said that their knowledge , the meeting was not scheduled.
"We appreciate the governor's interest as we continue to hold talks with many officials, "said Sultan.
The project, planned for the two blocks from where the September 11 attacks, attacks by suspected al Qaeda destroyed the World Trade Center and killed nearly 3,000 people, have moved the national debate over whether Muslim center must be built on the site.
"If everyone step back and look at this truly represents the best interests of everyone to do it ... especially the Muslim community, to show that they are serious about building bridges and that they not only strive to make a statement with will have a mosque that was built at Ground Zero, "said King.
King told Reuters that he wanted to see the cultural center and mosque was built, but far from where the attack. current proposed location will reopen too many wounds, he said.
"This is just opening old wounds and sprinkle salt over it, "he added.
Plans for the project, called Cordoba House, includes a 13 floor building to accommodate a space for prayer, auditorium, swimming pool and several meeting rooms.
President Barack Obama participate in the excitement that Friday, saying he supports the right of Muslims to build in that place. In the midst of a political reaction that was not well a day later, the president said he was (only) commenting on the freedom of religion, not the exact location of the mosque.
With people trying to win Republican control of Congress from the Democratic leadership of Obama, and his own face a tough struggle for re-election, the Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid cracks with the president on the issues, to say the mosque will be built elsewhere. (Yahoo!News)
