60 Whaling in Mass 'Suicide'
Wellington - 60 Whaling in Mass 'Suicide' : Almost 60 pilot whales die in mass after a single stranded coast of New Zealand , Friday ( 08/20/2010 ) .
The 60 fish that are part of the 73 whales that were stranded in bulk and was found around noon in the area.
" Whales might be stranded on the beach at night. That 's why many whales die before the rescue operation was launched , " said Carolyn Smith of the Department of Animal Conservation .
According to Carolyn , high winds and heavy rain which flushed the area around the coast north of Kaitaia in New Zealand to help this process.
" Minimal stranded fish body is not dehydrated and dried . However , these conditions also make the officers difficult to restore them to the sea , " he said.
According to animal rescue workers , at least five people needed to take one whale who weighs 1.5 tons of it into the sea .
This is an unusual occurrence , dozens of stranded whales along the coast of New Zealand. However , last December , about 100 whales "suicide " along the Coast of South Island . (Kompas.com)
